Professor Jiang Desheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief professor of Wuhan University of Technology, was invited to give an academic report on March 3rd. The event was chaired by Wu Yucheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the School Party Committee and Vice President of the university.
During the report, Professor Jiang in-depth interpreted the research and application prospects of fiber optic sensors embedded in materials to form intelligent composite materials with sensing functions. He systematically expounded on the scientific ideas of his research team in solving a series of key material and processing preparation problems, developing large-capacity, long-distance, multi-parameter grating array fiber sensing networks, and innovatively implanting grating array sensing "neurons" into road materials, enabling all-domain roads to have multiple parameter intelligent perception capabilities. Professor Jiang used examples such as smart highway demonstration applications, full-coverage intelligent runway demonstration applications, and fully intelligent subway demonstration applications to detail how real-time monitoring of vehicle operation status throughout the road, detection of important infrastructure health conditions such as pavement, subgrade, bridges, tunnels, etc. is achieved in demonstration projects, and provides the crucial information needed for vehicle-road coordination and autonomous driving. This has provided a key carrier for the rapid development of smart highways.
In his remarks at the end of the report, Wu Yucheng pointed out that Professor Jiang's report has strong practical guiding significance for the high-quality development of relevant disciplines in the school. He hoped that teachers and students present would earnestly study Professor Jiang's academic thoughts, earnestly enhance their sense of responsibility and mission for independent technological development, improve their ability and level of scientific and technological innovation, and make greater contributions to the development of the school.
More than 200 teachers and students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Civil Engineering and Water Resources, School of Instrumentation Science and Optoelectronic Engineering, and School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering listened to Professor Jiang's wonderful academic report.
Jiang Desheng is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a chief professor and doctoral supervisor at Wuhan University of Technology. He also serves as chairman of the Fiber Optic Sensing Technology Committee and Industry Alliance of the Chinese Optical Engineering Society. He has been awarded the first outstanding talent award in Hubei Province and the outstanding contribution award for achievement transformation. For more than 40 years, he has been engaged in research on new technologies for fiber optic sensing, making breakthroughs in fiber optic sensing sensitive material preparation, precision processing of fiber optic sensors, key technologies and equipment for industrial production. He has established China's only national engineering research center in the field of fiber optic sensing technology. In recent years, his team's "key technology for large-capacity array fiber grating dynamic preparation" has been demonstrated and praised in industries such as intelligent pipe networks, smart subways, airport intelligent runways, and intelligent highways.
