On the morning of May 16, 2023, Professor Zhou Wei fromOn the morning of May 16, 2023, Professor Zhou Wei from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore was invited to give an academic report titled "Additive Manufacturing by Cold Spray Technology" at the second-floor lecture hall of the Academic Conference Center. Wu Yucheng, the Standing Committee member and Vice President of the School Party Committee, attended the report. The report was chaired by Lu Jun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and nearly a hundred teachers and students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering listened to the academic report on site.
During the report, Professor Zhou focused on introducing the working principle and equipment process characteristics of cold spray additive manufacturing technology. He used animations and videos to vividly explain the solid bonding mechanism in the cold spray additive manufacturing process. He demonstrated how his team utilized this new technology for additive manufacturing and repairing titanium and nickel alloy engineering components. He also provided an in-depth interpretation of the research value and application prospects of cold spray additive manufacturing technology in fields such as aerospace, national defense engineering, and nuclear fusion devices.
When hosting the report, Lu Jun pointed out that Professor Zhou's report provided a comprehensive and easy-to-understand explanation of the emerging cold spray additive manufacturing technology for teachers and students. He hoped that everyone present would carefully understand Professor Zhou's academic philosophy, effectively enhance their ability for technological innovation, and make greater contributions to the development of scientific research in the school.
Professor Zhou is a professor from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and a distinguished professor at Huangshan Scholar in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Hefei University of Technology. He graduated from Tsinghua University in 1985 with a major in welding and obtained his doctoral degree in Materials Science and Metallurgy from the University of Cambridge in 1991. Professor Zhou's main research areas include nanomanufacturing, welding, and additive manufacturing for advanced materials processing and manufacturing. He has established close industry-academic cooperation with internationally renowned companies and research institutes such as Rolls-Royce in the UK and Schaeffler in Germany. His research achievements have been widely adopted by the industry through technology transfer. Professor Zhou has been awarded the Public Service Medal by the President of Singapore. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Singapore's quality and standards, he has been honored with the Honorary Achievement Award by the Singapore government.
