On March 3, Jiang Desheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief professor of Wuhan University of Technology, Dong Shaoming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and researcher of the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Fu Zhengyi, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the State Key Laboratory of New Materials Composite Technology of Wuhan University of Technology, visited our university to guide the work and put forward comments and suggestions on strengthening the construction of materials discipline. Yu Qijun, Secretary of the University Party Committee, and Wu Yucheng, member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President, accompanied the participants.
On the same day, three academicians, Jiang Desheng, Dong Shaoming, Fu Zhengyi, successively inspected the laboratory of Material Science and Engineering school, and learned detailedly about the construction of the Ministry of Education of High-performance Copper Alloy Materials and Forming Processing, the Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory of Advanced Functional Materials and Devices, and the Analysis and Testing Center of the Materials school.
Subsequently, the three academicians held a discussion exchange on the construction and development of material discipline. Wu Yucheng presided over the forum.
At the forum, Lv Jun, the Secretary of the Party Committee of Materials School, reported on the work of Materials school in terms of discipline and construction, talent training, and achievements in scientific research. The three academicians spoke highly of the achievements of Materials school. They agreed that the Materials School of Hefei University of Technology has a solid foundation, excellent tradition and distinctive characteristics, and has always persisted in the principle of “educating people for the party, and educating talents for the country”, and investigates highly in the aspect of improving the quality of education and teaching, and the quality of high-level personnel is excellent.
Three academicians, Jiang Desheng, Dong Shaoming and Fu Zhengyi, put forward constructive guidance on the development of material discipline. They pointed out that the development of material discipline should insist on adhering to the frontier of science and technology, the main battlefield of the economy, the significant requirements of the country, and the health of the people, persist on “interdisciplinary and integration” and “construction of talent gradient”, encourages young teachers to explore actively and take the road of characteristic development, and strive to produce more and higher level innovations and achievements.
Yu Qijun expressed a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to three academicians for their visit, and introduced the development history of the university as well as the reformation in recent years. Yu Juncehng pointed out that in the past 70 years since its establishment, Hefei University of Technology has always adhered to the ambition of “serving the country with industry”, thoroughly implemented the party’s educational policy, carried out the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating people, vigorously implemented the strategy of strengthening the school with talents, basing the school on quality, thriving the school with characteristics, and innovation-driven development, adhered to high-quality connotative development, and achieved fruitful results in various undertakings., making important contributions to the country’s economic and social development, especially industrialization.
Yu Qijun emphasized that the valuable opinions and suggestions put forward by the three academicians have solved the problems and pointed out the direction for the development of materials science. The relevant units of the school should carefully sort out the opinions and suggestions of the three academicians, study and comprehend, apply the guiding opinions to the actual construction of materials disciplines, and make new achievements and new contributions to the development of the school.
